Fat Girls Get Pregnant Too

It’s difficult to find affordable clothes when you reach the plus sizes, and believe me I’m not asking for anyone’s sympathy. I know that I’ve put myself in this position and that I’ve made my bed and now I have to lie in it (blah, blah, blah, blah, blah) but sometimes the expense is more than I car afford or bear. The plus size clothing industry can pretty much sell their clothing at any price point they’d like because there is very little competition and that’s just the nature of the beast. If you’re big clothes are expensive and difficult to find and I’ve come to terms with that, but add pregnant into the mix and it’s about a thousand times more expensive and difficult. Come on people, fat girls get pregnant too!

My tummy has started to grow, as I knew it would and the clothes that were fitting aren’t any more. So I started looking for maternity clothes. Do you know what I’ve discovered? There are two, maybe three stores (at least in my area) that carry plus size maternity clothing and only one of those carries them in the actual store. What! Really? Really. So my fiancée and I go to said location, which also carries regular sizes, and the store is huge. I felt so relieved, here’s a store I can walk into and not have to risk the cost of shipping to try things on and it’s huge so I figure there is a good selection. Not really, no. In this store, which is about twice the size of your normal retail clothing store, there is one wall way in the back that they consider the “Plus Size” section. It’s a damn good thing the clothes were cute and work appropriate otherwise I might have had a nervous breakdown right there in the store.

So what’s the deal? Considering the number of obese people in the United States it would seem that larger size clothing would be more main stream than it is that there would be more selection at more affordable prices. Though I guess one could argue that that would be condoning obesity which is in no way healthy. Then again smoking and drinking are in no way healthy and America doesn’t seem to have a problem condoning that. It certainly isn’t difficult to find the booze or a cigarette and the selection is seemingly endless. The fact of the matter is that there are fat people and fat pregnant people and our money spends just as easily as everyone else’s, so why does finding clothes to spend it on seem so difficult, the food sure is easy enough to find.
